XML Sitemap Checker
Search engines discover pages faster through a sitemap. This check reads the Sitemap: directives in robots.txt, falls back to /sitemap.xml, validates the XML (including sitemap indexes) and samples listed pages for indexability.
Results open in the site's full report, which you can share, compare and re-run.
What it checks
- Sitemap location from robots.txt or /sitemap.xml
- Valid urlset or sitemapindex XML on the same origin
- Nested sitemaps inside a sitemap index
- Sampled pages: status, title, H1 and noindex
Frequently asked questions
- Does every site need a sitemap?
- Small, well-linked sites can be crawled without one, but a sitemap costs little and helps new or deep pages get found.
- Why is my sitemap not found?
- It may live at a non-default path without a Sitemap: line in robots.txt, be served as HTML, or point to a different domain.
- How many URLs can a sitemap hold?
- Up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed; larger sites use a sitemap index.
